Support for EPA Region 3 Port of Wilmington Community Meeting Facilitation
The Hummingbird Firm was hired to help deliver a culturally competent community engagement process for the Delaware Community Benefits Agreement Coalition (DelCBAC), a community organization near the Port of Wilmington. The team engaged the DelCBAC using the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Community Action Roadmap tool: Empowering Nearport Communities, designed to empower and organize local residents. Among other tasks, the Hummingbird Firm:
- Coordinated with EPA and Eastern Research Group (ERG),
- Researched the history and context of the Port of Wilmington’s expansion project,
- Participated in meetings with DelCBAC representatives to better understand the organization’s goals for this training and role in the community,
- Developed a community engagement and meeting facilitation plan which follows EPA’s Community Action Roadmap: Empowering Nearport Communities,
- Created meeting agendas, took notes and shared the notes with meeting attendees,
- Provided virtual facilitation for six two-hour training sessions with DelCBAC, and
- Provided follow up support for continued community engagement as needed.
