EPA Environmental Justice Stakeholder Repository

It is essential for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to have a nationwide flexible repository or directory of their external stakeholders. Hummingbird utilized existing EPA lists of contacts to develop and create a nationwide stakeholder list of environmental justice community leaders, tribes, organizations, and advisory groups. Hummingbird worked with EPA staff to gather information to fill in missing data fields. Hummingbird collaborated with EPA to identify searchable fields including geographic location, environmental area of concern, and organizational type. The repository was designed to allow users to create printable search reports. Hummingbird also developed a quick reference manual and conducted a 2-hour training for editing, data entry, searches, and reports. This repository enables the EPA to better and more efficiently notify and engage with its external stakeholders on regulatory actions in keeping with its mission of protecting human health and the environment.

In the second iteration of the repository, Hummingbird was tasked with revising the Stakeholder Repository. Tasks were broken up into various phases, which included:

Phase 1: Updating Contact Information,

Phase 2: Updating Repository Functionality,

Phase 3: Making the Repository More User-friendly, and

Phase 4: Training.

Hummingbird updated the repository by: cleaning up/updating contacts and information; incorporating organizational type, environmental concern, and EPA region into the query report list; adding search options for multiple concerns, regions, and all states; and formatting report output and the query interface to be more user-friendly. In the third iteration, Hummingbird updated the contacts.
