New York Clean Transportation Prize Competition - Technical Assistance

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has embarked on a lofty mission to develop innovative solutions to the State’s most challenging energy and environmental problems. NYSERDA is dedicating 85 million dollars to selected teams to implement clean transportation solutions in underserved communities. The three areas of the competition include: Clean Neighborhoods Challenge, Electric Mobility Challenge, and Electric Truck & Bus Challenge. To support the competing teams, NYSERDA hired several contractors to assist the teams in conducting foundational work, including designing the project, carrying out benefit-cost analyses, and conducting initial community engagement work.

Hummingbird provided technical assistance to competing teams. The technical assistance included carrying out demographics analyses to ensure that the projects were actually impacting underserved communities, carrying out EJScreen analyses to further understand the intersection of demographics and environmental impacts, providing GIS support, and estimating travel demand/generation. Hummingbird also provided guidance on the teams’ public engagement plans.

Additionally, Hummingbird planned and led NYSERDA project managers through cultural competency training in the context of the communities being served by the winning prizes.
