Chatham County Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Ordinance and Code Review
The Chatham County Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Ordinance and Code Review is a comprehensive initiative to evaluate and update the county’s codes and ordinances to enhance resilience to climate change. This review focuses on both the unincorporated areas of Chatham County and the City of Savannah (excluding areas of incorporated Chatham County), to foster sustainability and climate resilience through updated policies.
Hummingbird’s primary focus is to ensure that the review process incorporates meaningful community input to guide the development of updated codes and ordinances. Our scope includes:
- Stakeholder Identification and Outreach: Developing an inclusive outreach strategy to engage local government, community organizations, and residents, ensuring all voices are heard in shaping the county’s climate resilience strategies
- Community Engagement Activities: Organizing pop-ups, surveys, small group listening sessions, and community visioning sessions to gather feedback on the existing ordinances and proposed changes, emphasizing the involvement of marginalized and underrepresented populations
- Technical Data and Analysis Integration: Working alongside SLR International Corporation to integrate technical data and community feedback to inform proposed amendments to the codes, ensuring recommendations align with community priorities
Through this collaborative process, Hummingbird and SLR will ensure that the final recommendations for the ordinances reflect the needs and goals of the community, fostering a resilient and sustainable future for Chatham county and the City of Savannah.
